This dish is a my favorite comfort food since childhood. Every Chinese household has its own version of ground pork with tofu, each with its unique touch, yet it always brings comfort.

It’s a popular dish that you can often find on the menu at Chinese restaurants, loved by many.

In Indonesia, it’s known as Mun TahuMun meaning braised, and Tahu meaning tofu.

I love ground pork recipes in Chinese cuisines. They are easy to digest and very easy to make, like Steamed Pork Patty or Braised Tofu with Ground Pork, Pork and Broccoli Stir Fry, Kikurage Mushroom Chicken with cauliflower, and Eggplant with Ground Pork and Oyster Sauce.

Ingredient Notes

Tofu – Choose any tofu you like. Any tofu  is good to go with this recipe. If you can find a grocery store that sells tofu on a wooden tray, get this one! This kind of tofu has a smokey taste in it, but this one is the softest of all tofu.

Ground pork – The best part of pork to choose is the shoulder part. It has enough fat to make the meat juicy. You can change pork to chicken if you like. Choose chicken thigh fillet, as it is more juicy.

Shrimps – peel the shrimps and devein them. You may soak them in baking soda water for 5 minutes and rinse them clean before using.

Oyster sauce – Add oyster sauce to give an umami flavor to the dish.

Fish sauce – I find that using fish sauce enhances the flavor of the shrimp even more. You can substitute with soy sauce if you prefer.

Cornstarch slurry – This will make the broth a little thicker and smooth.
