Steamed pork patty is a simple and delicious dish you can find in many Chinese households. You will be surprised at how easy and quick to prepare this dish and the result is so delicious!

This dish has always been one of my childhood favorites. As a busy housewife, my mother often made this steamed ground pork because it was quick to prepare and a hit with the kids.
There’s something irresistible about this simple dish. It’s incredibly easy and fast to make. Paired with steamed rice, it becomes a delicious and nutritious meal.
Steamed ground pork is a straightforward dish made from ground pork and preserved vegetables, all steamed to perfection. The mixture is typically seasoned with soy sauce, garlic, and green onions, and sometimes, bits of salted fish are added for extra depth.
There are two types of fermented vegetables often used to make pork patty in Chinese dish. Another type is with sour vegetables. It is usually wet and the color is greenish.
Steaming helps retain the nutrients, flavors, and moisture of the meat, forming a patty in the bowl as it cooks.
This is a simple dish that can go with vegetables stir fry like Garlic Green Beans, Pork and Broccoli Stir Fry, or Kikurage Chicken Mushroom.

Ingredient Notes
Ground Pork – You can get ground pork from grocery store. Make sure the meat is from the shoulder part of the pig because it has more fat in it. The fat is enough to make the pork juicy and bouncy.
Fermented Vegetables – Be careful in using fermented vegetables. They are salty, so do not use too much of it. This one is the dried version of preserved vegetables. There is another version of fermented vegetables, which is wet. The color is different and it has sour flavor.

How to Make


STEP 1. Prepare the sauteed oil. Put 2 tbsp cooking oil in a wok. Heat it up. Put in garlic and leeks. Let it fry until fragrant. Take out the garlic and leeks. Take only the oil. Set aside. Put the ground pork in a bowl. Put in all the seasonings: oyster sauce, soy sauce, salt, pepper, sugar, and sauteed oil (Image 1).
STEP 2. Mix well with a fork or a spatula until well combined (Image 2).


STEP 3. Make sure the seasonings are well distributed (Image 3) . Divide into 4 parts (Image 4). Flatten the meat mixture with a spatula in the center part so it forms a bowl.


STEP 5. Make sure the meat is sunken in the center so it will collect some broth in it (Image 5). Steam with high heat for 15 – 20 minutes. It is ready to serve with steamed white rice (Image 6). Garnish with leeks or coriander leaves.
Pro Tips
- You can chop the fermented vegetables so it becomes small pieces, so it is evenly spread in the mixture.
- Use 70/30 lean to fat ratio for the pork. Or pick the collar part.
- Sometimes there will be some slimy parts of the pork on top of the patty. Take out the slimy part after steaming.
How to Serve
Serve this pork patty with steamed white rice or noodles. For side dish, you can serve green beans with garlic, tomato egg, or kikurage mushroom chicken stir fry.
If you love deep-fried stuff, you can serve it with meatballs or shrimp balls or fried wonton. They are great deep-fried side dish to pair with this steamed pork patty.

- 30 gr fermented vegetables
- 1/2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp fish sauce
- 1/4 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 3 tbsp flavoured oil
